Welcome W

fEditor’s tip

elcome back! I don’t know about you, but I still get that ‘new- shoes-and-pencil-case’ thrill at the beginning of the school

year, and while there may be an element of sadness that the long summer break is over, for many of us September means a fresh start. Make the most of this new-found enthusiasm by enlisting more volunteers for your fundraising efforts. As a member of my children’s school

PTA for the past fi ve years I’ve had fi rst-hand experience of planning and attending many successful (as well as

not-so-successful!) fundraising events. But even the most effective PTAs need to rejuvenate their fundraising plans, which is why we include plenty of inspirational stories and ideas from fellow PTAs in every issue. Most AGMs are held this term, and we’ve got advice on how this works and

how to boost attendance on p25. Once the formalities are out of the way, take time to plan your fundraising year (see p15). It’s also a good idea to draw up a wish list with your school (p21) – otherwise, what are you doing it all for?! It may seem too soon to be turning your attention to Christmas (feel sorry

for the team here – we’ve been working on our Christmas content since May!), but it will be here before you know it, so turn to p42 for our Christmas fair guide, put together using all the helpful tips you’ve sent us over the years, as well as some up-to-date testimonials. And on p48 you’ll fi nd a rundown of fantastic Christmas fair stall ideas, from simple games to warming refreshments, as well as a must-read guide to running a grotto. We love hearing from our readers – so if you’re looking for advice or have

stories you’d like to share, please email us or post on our Facebook page. In the meantime we wish you all a successful autumn term, and happy planning!
