WHAT DOES YOUR ORGANISATION DO? Northampton Life Magazine is an online magazine and the place to visit for local news. We cover everything from business news, charity achievements, theatre reviews, places to eat and all that’s great within the county.
HOW DID IT ALL START? Ever since I was child I wanted to be a journalist. I studied print- based media in college then did a BA in Journalism at City University, London. I’ve written my own beauty and lifestyle blog for seven years. At the start of 2018 I decided to go freelance and Northampton Life happened at just the right time.
WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR? Getting my second month as the best month in two years for Northampton Life is a huge achievement. It’s proof that bringing me on board has given it that necessary push to put it back in the community eyeline. Businesses are interested in us more than ever.
WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST IN YOUR JOB? I’ve been so surprised by the wealth of businesses here. I’m born and bred from Suffolk so when I moved here it was a pleasure to see so many diverse, unique businesses. After networking and reading about local news there’s a lot of drive here.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING
OUT? If you want to be in journalism, then I recommend starting a blog. It’s an instant portfolio to showcase everything from your writing, social media, PR skills, web design and photography.
WHICH BUSINESS PERSON DO YOU MOST ADMIRE? Maria Hatzistefanis, the founder of Rodial skincare. She went from being a writer to creating one of the world’s biggest skincare and makeup brands.
WHAT EXCITING PROJECTS IS YOUR ORGANISATION
WORKING ON? We’re holding our Northampton Life Awards for 2018. We’ve had great success from our first few which began with the Salon of the Year which had over 900 nominations from the public alone. We love to include sponsors on these awards throughout the year and create a real buzz around the community. It’s great to see the public involved as they are the judges!
WHAT MADE YOU JOIN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE CHAMBER
AND HOW ARE YOU MAKING USE OF YOUR MEMBERSHIP? Being a member makes us feel part of the business community. Northampton Life utilise this to connect with other businesses and offer Member2Member offers. We utilise the directory and attend events that help us grow as a publication in the county. We wanted to get our name out there and bring awareness to our presence and the Chamber brings just that.
