DEPARTURES T
THE ART DEPARTMENT PRIVATE VIEW 2018
uesday 12 June saw the Art department hold their private view, Departures - an exhibition
of Year 11 GCSE art coursework and exam work, along with a selection of KS3 students work. The event was well attended by students, parents and staff, to view material which Year 11 students had been working hard on creating throughout the two-year course.
The standard of work was high, with the work being displayed in a professional white-wall exhibition space at school, to further showcase the quality of the students’ skills.
Head of Art, Mr Pitt presented a number of Year 11 students with awards ranging from ‘portrait’, ‘still life’, ‘abstract’ and ‘most improved artist of the year’.
Mr Pitt said “I am really proud to see the students work in this setting. It is testament
to the hard work the students have put in and highlights how many quality artists we have within GCSE and also coming up throughout the Key stages here at GFS. At a time when creative subjects around the country are feeling the strain, it is great to have this exhibition as the departments celebrates its 4th year, to show GFS is bucking this trend and working hard to promote the arts and students’ creativity”.
The 20 KS3 students whose work was also exhibited, demonstrated their strong skills, commitment, and wish to develop within art. With this recognition, students were awarded a ‘GFS Art Ambassador’ role, which will see them participate in special workshops, visits and responsibilities within the department during the 2018-19 academic year in order to further develop their skills as student artists.
A massive thank you to all parents and students who attended the Private View, to make the first end of GCSE exhibition such a success.
