GFS REGIONAL CHAMPION IN JACK PETCHEY CHALLENGE

H

uge congratulations to Alexi Loizou on becoming the Regional Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge Champion! Also well done to Lauren Boakye for also representing the school at the finals. GFS were proud to host the event this

year, attended by the Mayor of Greenwich. Brave students from across 18 local schools competed, showing high levels of public speaking skills and confidence. Alexi went on to represent GFS at the London finals at the Cambridge Theatre in London, finishing third overall - an outstanding achievement.

Sir Jack Petchey CBE founded the Jack Petchey Foundation in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society and assist them in achieving their potential. They support programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25 in London and Essex and have invested over £110 million in such schemes. This includes the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge, the world’s largest public speaking competition for young people and Step into Dance, the UK’s biggest inclusive dance programme for secondary school pupils.

his term is an extremely exciting time for any aspiring senior student leaders from

Year 9 and Year 10. The student leadership team at GFS will be comprised of Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Girl, Subject Prefects and Form Reps for each Year, Form, Sport and Charity.

The election process for Senior Student Leaders was launched on Monday 18th 10.

June to Year 9 and

Students are required to fill out an application form and source two references (one personal and one professional). Tutors will then shortlist candidates and those successful will move to the next stage interviews. Successful interview candidates move onto debating in an assembly and speaking at the summer concert.

The successful students will be announced on 12th

July. Those

appointed will have wonderful opportunities such as receiving leadership training, representing the school during school events and participating in their own student meetings. The aim of the programme is to inspire and prepare our students to be leaders. We wish all Year 9 and 10 students applying for this opportunity the very best of luck.
