MEMBER ZONE CHAMBER INSIDER
Name: Claire Millar Job Title: Marketing Executive
Tell us about yourself I joined the Devon Chamber of Commerce in May of this year as a Marketing Executive with a focus on supporting the marketing of Chamber events and membership. With 16 years’ experience in Marketing, mainly public service but more recently in the retail industry, I am hoping to bring a wealth of knowledge to the Chamber and I am, so far, enjoying the challenge. I am a Plymouth girl, born and raised here and come from quite a large family within the area.
So when I moved up to Surrey in 2002, to work in London, I had a yearning to come back to my roots after a few years. I had various roles within the Civil Service including eight years working for the Passport
Office. In this time I worked on various marketing channels, including the company magazine, website content and project work, not to mention the ID cards campaign before taking voluntary redundancy in 2010. After this I took various contracted jobs around the area including working for international
defence and a typesetting company. I moved back to Plymouth in December 2013 and managed to secure another marketing role at the beginning of 2014. I am a cat lover and I am the proud owner of two beautiful Rag Dolls.
Tell us about your role When I saw the job advertised at the Chamber it looked like a good all round role where I could really utilise the skills I have gained previously. I am currently getting to grips with the production of the weekly newsletters and this is the first time that I’ve been involved in the publication of Chamber Profile, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being involved with. So far working at the Chamber has
given me the opportunity to meet some really interesting people, learn about local businesses and the local economy. It’s an interesting place to work and I learn something new every day. Going forward my focus will be to
improve and raise the profile of chamber activities, services and member engagement programmes. These are exciting times for the Chamber and I look forward to being part of that.
