POLOCROSSE

WARWICKSHIRE’S AMY HARPER

POLOCROSSE SUCCESS FOR

1

8 year old Amy Harper has been riding since before she could walk, and has been playing

polocrosse since she was five! Polocrosse is a cross between

polo and Lacrosse (As it’s name suggests). It has also been compared to quidditch on horse back. Amy tells us “At the lower levels

any sort of horse/pony can play (with the correct training) and most horses take to it well. I started playing with my pony club (North Warwickshire) because the pony lhad at the time didn’t jump!! There are polocrosse clubs all over the country (My club is Arden) and most weekends from May to September we travel round the various clubs to play at their tournament’s. It’s lots of fun; the game is fast and exciting; you make very good friends. As lsaid before, most horses can and will play. I currently have two horses to play ( you are only allowed to play one horse at most tournaments)” “Whitehawk Polka Dot is a 7 year old

spotted sport horse. I’ve owned him since he was a 3 year old, and broke him in myself. He is multi-talented

because he also plays polo, jumps B.S and hunts, my 10 year brother has borrowed him for pony club! My other horse is Paddy, a 7 year old T/B whom we bought out of racing, l retrained him myself. Again, a Multi- talented horse, he also plays polo.” “This year lwas lucky enough to

be selected for the United Kingdom Polocrosse Associations (UKPA) Under 19s squad. We have been training over the winter, and on the 4th of July we fly to South Africa to play in test matches

against the South Africans. There are 14 players travelling out (7 girls 7 boys) and our coaches and manager. The tour is entirely self funding (l recently sold my top horse to fund this trip) and the squad would be very interested in any sponsorship (however small) details of packages can be found on the UKPA Under 19s squad face book page, lalso have a “Go fund me page” on Facebook.
