ummer is here and I have a question for you! When is the last time you let loose and had some serious fun? In the world we live in today, we are pushed harder and harder to
manage every second of our time, work longer hours, be disci- plined and take care of everyone but ourselves. Well, it’s about time we all remembered how to play and bring some fun back into our busy lives.
It seems we’ve been conditioned to believe that after we graduate high school or college, the fun stops and the serious work
begins. And while we do have to spend more time working now, we must not forget that having fun and playing is the lifeblood of what keeps us going. Summer is the perfect time to do this!
Can any of you remember the last time you were on a swing, threw a Frisbee, body
surfed the waves at the beach? These are truly life’s greatest pleasures for a kid, why not an adult. Some highly successful companies have brought a sense of humor and play into their workplace. Google allows employees to bring their pets and musical instruments to the executives with Lego building blocks.
playing a sport you love, dancing with your children, watching a funny movie or jumping on that swing. Whatever it is, make sure that you are having fun doing it and it makes you laugh. Play is something that we should engage in on a daily basis even if only for a short period and enjoy ourselves. Remember, part of the reason we are here in this lifetime is to have all different kinds of experiences, having fun and playing being one of them. It shouldn’t be an activity restricted to children or a certain period in your life. You should incorporate play into your life for your entire lifetime. Find one thing you love to do that brings you joy and makes you laugh and do it today or this weekend. Then try and incorporate more and more aspects tion and fun will allow you to return to your job or business with renewed excitement and mojo momentum to keep reaching for those ultimate goals and dreams.

ome of you may have been following my articles to know that I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and recently went through a detox program to feel better. I’m not 100%, but I thought I was well enough
to get back to exercising. So, when a friend of mine told me about a begin- really surprised at how out of shape I felt and as time progressed I started to feel worse with each class. I couldn’t catch my breath, I was nauseous and sometimes felt like I was going to pass out. Not wanting anyone to know
how I was feeling, I just hid what was going on. It was only after having a conversation with Diane Hayden, the publisher of this magazine, who also holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology that I realized the reason I was feeling horrible and also gaining weight instead of losing it was because I was causing additional stress on my body by exercising! I had NO idea that could happen! I thought all exercise was good for you!
Because my immune system had been compromised from the Lyme Disease and I had added stress from extra work I had taken on, my cortisol levels were already elevated which was affecting my ability to lose weight. Jumping into an exercise routine, that I was rushing to get to class to on time, just wasn’t what my body needed right now and it was screaming at me loud and clear! Diane recommended I instead focus on taking a casual walk each day for the next couple of weeks to reset my levels and give my body a break. Since I much prefer to walk in nature vs. on a treadmill or on the street, I decided to see what trails were nearby that I could many trails in my area! My goal has been to try new trails throughout the week and rotate them so my routine never gets boring. I have already started and am feeling much better! So, my advice to you is to pay attention to the signs your body is giving you and to also think of other your body moving, especially if you’re body needs time to heal.
