Broadlands Wood Off Broadlands Avenue, Newton Abbot. A tarmac path leads to this small but ancient community
woodland with a range of flora and fauna including the speckled wood butterfly.
Courtenay Park
Eight-acre Green Flag park with a pond and fountain, smoking-free railway-themed play area and bandstand. Home to Newton Abbot Bowling Club. Decoy Country Park and Nature Reserve A 29-acre Green Flag site off Decoy Road with woodlands with marked trails, a large lake for water sports, a modern smoking-free children’s play area with water park and playing fields. Created in 1988 from a former quarry it has three main woodland walks of 20, 40 and 60 mins; 10-minute bike trail leads to BMX track and skate park and 40 min trim trail includes outdoor gym equipment. Sailing, fishing, community orchard and wildlife-rich Magazine Pond with oak walkway including ramp for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Weekend refreshment kiosk and Discovery Centre, pay-and- display parking, toilets, disabled facilities with free mobility scooter. Decoy Road.
Forde House
Grade 1 Jacobean manor house dating from 1610 and noted for its 17th-century wood carving and plaster work. Famous visitors include Charles I, Oliver Cromwell and William Prince of Orange. Owned since 1979 by Teignbridge District Council and hired for training events, conferences, meetings, weddings and special events. Not open to the public except by arrangement or through occasional summer guided tours, 01626 215484 (bookings). Brunel Road, Newton Abbot.
Forde Park
An eight acre park with Luscombe oaks, seating and tennis courts, developed in the late 1800s and now a conservation area. Off Torquay Road, via Keyberry Road/Keyberry Park or Forde Park access.
Hannahs Hannahs. A multi-facility charity complex at the former Seale-Hayne agricultural college focussed on enriching the lives of disabled children and adults and the official charity of the 2018 Devon County Show. Features a range of public activities including a bistro, shops, gallery, sports hall, wildlife trails, animals, farm, art workshops, Yellow Room music venue and Big Red rehearsal and recording space. Jetty Marsh Nature Reserve County wildlife site linked to both the Templer Way and a similar site at Aller Brook. Nearly ten acres of reed beds, grassland and open water including habitat for otters and harvest mice. More than 150 different plant species and an important breeding area for many bird species, including the rare, protected cetti’s warbler. Contains disused canal basin where the former Stover Canal and Whitelake channel met. Bought as a reserve in 1993 by Teignbridge Council with Town Council support. Guided walks and events. Off Newton Road, Newton Abbot, near B&Q.
