E-commerce firm gives factory a new lease of life
Construction Materials Online, an e-commerce business, has taken up residence in an old bread factory, giving a new lease of life to the building. The rapidly growing parent
company of Roofing Superstore, Drainage Superstore and Insulation Superstore, currently based at Airport Business Centre in Estover, has brought forward a move into its prestigious new facilities at Burrington Estates ahead of schedule. Having outgrown its current
offices, plans were made to re- locate to the new premises mid-
summer 2018. But with more customers, came a need for more stock and a bigger warehouse. This led to part of the team moving into the new location early. Construction Materials Online’s
Operations Director, Callum Tasker, said: “We have increased our range of products stocked and the volume of stock due to customer demand, so it became urgent to get into the new warehouse as early as possible. “While there’s still work ongoing
in preparation for the complete office move, we were able to accelerate things to get the
distribution area ready sooner. It’s no mean feat organising a commercial move like this, but I’m pleased with how smoothly it’s gone, and the dispatch team are excited and raring to go in their gleaming new warehouse!” Construction Materials Online
collected the keys to its new Burrington Estates premises in January. It will now benefit from 15,000 square feet of warehouse – more than triple its original 4,500 square feet. The next phase is completing
works to the offices, which will house the rest of the company. This

includes each superstore’s team of expert customer service advisors, which set the company apart from other online building merchants. Construction Materials Online is
keen to create a dynamic new work space for its staff, and is working with local company Broadbase, the designers behind the Guardian’s offices to deliver its vision. Staff will permanently take up residence in Burrington Estates in summer 2018.
Redrow is buzzing about bumblebees
Redrow Homes has planted a special fruit orchard at its Saxon Brook development to provide a welcome home for bumblebees whose numbers have been declining in recent years. The award-winning housebuilder has planted 70
trees designed to create a perfect bee habitat, including several apple, plum and pear species. There will be a further 26,332 plants specifically chosen to enhance the development’s appeal for the buzzing pollen carriers and other wildlife. Redrow Homes has worked very
closely with East Devon Planning Department to select a good mix of plants that would help support the local wildlife and environment. The scheme is part of a wider initiative
Construction began at Saxon Brook in October 2016 ‘All the
planting across the site has been specifically chosen to encourage and support the local wildlife’
which saw Redrow partner with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust in 2014 to boost bumblebee numbers across the UK by using the green spaces at its developments to create special habitats. Located in Pinhoe, Exeter, this 317-plot development has been chosen as a flagship site for the scheme.

and will include a ‘Bumblebee Trail’ to be enjoyed by residents who wish to learn more about bees and how to encourage them in their own gardens. All new homeowners at Saxon Brook will receive a special information brochure with information about bumblebees and how to protect and nurture them and membership of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Michele Jones, Area Sales Manager
for Saxon Brook, said: “All the planting across the site has been specifically chosen to encourage and support the local wildlife. “Bumblebees are vital to our natural ecosystem – and our food chain – as they help plants pollinate and reproduce. We’re really pleased to be creating a great environment for furry buzzing friends to flourish
and can’t wait to see the results of all this planting in the spring.”
