Dunblane Centre Youth News

Every time I write this, I start off with ‘it’s been a busy couple of months’… at what point does busy just become normal?! Anyway, two fantastic youth events took place at the Centre through March and April.

Firstly, we celebrated National Science Week with a range of science themed shows and workshops. Through some joint working with Dunblane and Newton primary schools, nearly 500 young people took part in our activities during the week. I had you all had as much fun taking part as I did delivering them!

Then we celebrated Year of Young People 2018 with our phenomenal showcase event: Show of Shows Encore - A celebration of all the shows we have every performed at the Centre that involve over 100 young people and many members of our adult cast and community choir. I have to say, it was great fun to be back playing the dame! Saturday night’s performance finished with a very fitting tribute to Pamela, which certainly caused a few tears on and off stage. As some of you know already, she has since left the Centre to deliver a performing arts programme through her own organisation. I worked very closely with Pamela and, as incredibly sad as I am to see her go, I’m excited for what the future holds for her.

We now enter a quieter period for the youth programme through May and June – although we are looking forward to the Fling’s glow in the dark disco – Glow! Open to everyone in P1 – P7, don’t forget to buy your tickets in advance from the Centre. Also, keep an eye out for our stall at the Fling itself on the Saturday – we’re still planning things but rumour is there’s going to be lots of hands-on science!
