Here are some no and low cost ideas for year-round hunts which little one’s will love and help acclimatise them to life outdoors: • Colour Hunt - Pick up some colour swatches from your local do it yourself shop for a great colour match hunt. You’d be amazed at how many diff erent shades of blue and green there are!


• Worms Eye View – Looking though the viewfi nder on the colour swatches, or hole punching them if needed, gives children a framed view of their world. Notice how details draw the eye and the world seems somehow diff erent.

Fairy Land – Position some miniature pots or acorns, a fairy door or other paraphernalia for a magical fairy hunt.


Trains, Planes, Number plates, Birds and Stars - Then there’s always a myriad of things to spot wherever you are.


If we’re going to beat the battle against obesity and screen obsession, then us parents will need an array of strategies for encouraging children to thrive not just survive outdoors. With summer here, there’s no time like the present, so get hunting!
