As well as fundraising, are there any specifi c events, such as sports day, that they’d like you to be involved with? Having a good working relationship with your Head is vital, so give them a strong message of support and be clear and professional about how they can support the PTA. Get meeting dates in the diary and, if you don’t have one already, ask whether a specifi c teacher can be appointed to liaise with the PTA.

Assess your successes Spend some time reviewing last

year’s fundraising activity: Which events will you do again? What needs a shake- up? Are there new events you’d like to try? Aim for a mixture of ‘tried and true’ as well as ‘trying something new’. Make sure all your paperwork – knowledge capsules, licences, supplier contacts, etc – is up to date. knowledge, so how can you pass this on and ensure the PTA you leave behind when you do step down is a strong one? Can newer members shadow more experienced ones on specifi c projects? Could events be organised by a mix of new and old? Keep paperwork in one place and, if possible, have a ‘cooling down’ period where ‘old hands’ are still available to answer questions.
