Health Minor ailments

Five reasons to visit your LloydsPharmacy

We're proud to support NHS England’s Pharmacy First Campaign, which takes the strain off GPs by encouraging you to see your local Pharmacist. Here’s a list of common minor ailments our Pharmacists can help you with

Colds and flu Many people dread catching a cold or flu during the winter months. A cold can make you feel miserable and the flu can make you feel even worse. According to the NHS, most people will have a cold this autumn or winter and some will have flu too. Protect yourself against the flu by getting the flu vaccine at your

local pharmacy. Those with a high risk of complications from flu – such as the over 65s – can get a free flu jab free (ask your Pharmacist for more information). Your Pharmacist can also recommend over- the-counter remedies to help soothe your symptoms.

Headaches Half the population has had a headache over the past year with an unlucky one in 20 experiencing one almost every day, says the World Health Organization. Our Pharmacist Anshu Bhimbat explains: “Tension is the main cause of headaches but many things, including dehydration, poor posture, sensitivity to foods or smells, eyestrain, toothache, earache or even missed sleep can trigger them.” Ask your pharmacist’s advice about the best over-the-counter painkillers for you.

Head lice Lice aren’t anything to be worried about, but can cause your child discomfort. They can spread from child to child by direct head contact as well as via hats, hair brushes and sometimes bedding Lice will not go away on their own, so seek the right treatment – your local Pharmacist can advise you.

Children’s fever If your child feels hotter than normal, take their temperature. If it is higher than 38°C, your child has a fever. A fever is usually caused by an underlying

infection and often gets better by itself. Ask your Pharmacist about treating a fever and recommended over-the-counter treatments.

Cuts, grazes and bumps Many of us, particularly children, experience cuts and bumps. If you’re worried about looking after them, ask your Pharmacist for advice. You can also pick up a first aid kit, so you’ll always have the right treatments on hand when your need them.
