Beauty Younger skin
When you were in your teens and 20s you may have been able to stay up all night and still have glowing skin the next morning. But chances are you won't be so lucky as you get older. Indeed, the first visible signs of ageing can start to appear in your 30s, especially if you tend to burn the candle at both ends frequently or your lifestyle habits aren’t as healthy as they could be.
In your 30s We all have skin that becomes drier with age. And if you haven’t paid much attention to your skin before, when you reach your 30s you may start to notice one or two fine lines, especially around your eyes.
In your 40s Meanwhile if you’re in your 40s or 50s you may well have noticed further signs of ageing, including more established lines and brown marks commonly known as age spots (hyperpigmentation). The good news is there are several steps you can take if
you want to keep your skin looking youthful. Here are a few things you can try today:
Anti-ageing tip #1: sunscreen Most skincare experts agree the number one strategy for keeping your skin wrinkle-free for as long as possible is to protect it from the sun. Damaging UV rays can cause premature ageing, so
during the summer months avoid the sun when it's at its strongest (between 11am and 3pm), and always wear a sunscreen with a high SPF (30 or higher) when you are exposed to the sun's rays. Using sunscreen may also help prevent age spots and discolouration.

Whatever your age, here are some tips to keep your skin looking its best Ask a member of your local LloydsPharmacy team to
recommend a sunscreen that doesn’t contain alcohol, as alcohol can make your skin feel dry.
Anti-ageing tip #2: smoking If you smoke you may know about the ways it can affect your health. But it’s also well established that smoking affects your skin. Smoking deprives your skin of oxygen and nutrients.
Some chemicals in tobacco smoke can affect your skin’s strength and elasticity, which can cause sagging skin and wrinkles, particularly around your mouth. If you need help with giving up smoking, speak to a
member of the healthcare team at your local LloydsPharmacy. Our Stop Smoking Service is free, and no appointment is necessary. Find out more at

Anti-ageing tip #3: retinol Vitamin A compounds called retinoids are often used in anti-ageing skincare products. These have been shown to boost collagen production and cell turnover as well as stimulate blood vessels, leading to more youthful looking skin. You can get noticeable benefits from using an over-the-
counter retinol treatment such as La Roche-Posay Redermic Anti-Wrinkle Treatment 30ml (£29.50). Avoid using retinoids if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding (ask your Pharmacist for advice). Other skincare products designed for older skin – such
as rich night creams – can make a difference too. These tackle some of the underlying causes of skin ageing (dryness, for example).
