THE GETTY’S CURRENT EXHIBITIONS:

Michelangelo to Degas: Major New Acquisitions Through April 22, 2018 The museum recently made one of the

most spectacular acquisitions in its history, purchasing a collection of sixteen drawings from a private collector. The group features exceptional sheets by many of the most celebrated draftsmen in European art history, including Michelangelo, Andrea del Sarto, Domenico Tiepolo, Goya and Degas. This exhibition presents the drawings together with an exquisite painting by Antoine Wat- teau, La Surprise, acquired from the same celebrated collection. The Permanent Collection includes pre-

20th century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, and decorative arts; 19th and 20th century American, European, and Asian photo- graphs; contemporary and modern sculpture; and Robert Irwin’s Central Garden, designed specifically for the Getty Center.

DINING AL FRESCO THE RESTAURANT AT THE GETTY

One of the main on-site eateries inside The

Getty Center, The Restaurant, offers a full service menu in an elegant setting, arguably featuring the most stunning views of the city skyline, the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains to the east as well as the Pacific Ocean to the west. During our visit there, my companion and I opted

to order from their lunch menu, which was quite alluring. Our first choice, a Paella starter jumped out, with head-on prawns, fragrant sofrito, Spanish chorizo, all beautifully cooked to perfection. For appetizers we enjoyed Charcuterie and Cheese, a lovely collection including: Pleasant Ridge Reserve, Carr Valley cocoa cardona, marin supreme brie, angels duck salami, prosciutto, spicy calabrese, local honeycomb and house made fig orange jam. Another starter followed from their ap- petizer menu, the Carrot Cumin Hummus; offering a unique blend of olive oil baked naan, paired with a shaved carrot and basil oil. A perfect beginning to a wonderful afternoon inside this spectacular locale. The Citrus Fennel Salad was served next: A fresh, healthy mix of local greens, confit kumquat, and pistachio, drizzled with chevre blood orange vinaigrette, a refreshing respite and quite lovely on the palette. For the entrée selection, the Seared Scallops

were ordered, featuring an apple-yam puree, tandoori chickpeas, crispy kale and the scallops. The scallops were superbly tender, melting in my mouth…they were totally scrumptious. My guest indulged in the sumptuous Local Swordfish which featured Meyer lemon and capers, served atop crispy smashed potatoes and baby leek. He described it as “tasty and succulent” and highly recommended the dish.

All in all, you couldn’t ask for a better selection

of well prepared and well designed food…And as mentioned before, the hilltop location and views are unparalleled. The Getty is a “must see-must do” experience for all the senses! During the month of March in celebration of the exhibition, A Queen’s Treasure from Versailles, a wonderful prix fixe menu is available and is accompanied with wine pairings. The appetizer Petit Pois a la Japonaise; with local baby greens, edamame, red pearl onion nueske lardons, miso, sesame oil and Dijon is beautifully paired with a Laetitia Pinot Noir, Arroyo Grande. The entrée, a Venaison à la Sauce au Chocolat; features seared venison, gnocchi, gruyere, parsley, a miso choco- late demi and tatsoi paired with Troublemaker Red Blend, Central Coast NV. Dessert includes a Gâteau de Lave de Matcha;green tea lava cake, mixed berries sauce, miso ice cream, raspberry French macaron with a Tozai Snow Maiden Junmai Nigori Sake, Kyoto Japan. $55 per guest and $67 with three wine pairings. The Getty Center also features a smaller cafe

open for lunch in the spring and summer seasons, which offers coffee, lunch, and snacks in an outdoor setting overlooking the Central Garden.
