Further expansion at Blue Castle Group


Waste management and energy consultancy Blue Castle Group has expanded its team following the appointment of George Sale and Charlene Evans. Charlene previously worked


for Coca Cola Enterprises as an account manager. Prior to this, she spent eight years working within the data industry. In her new role as Campaign


Manager, she will head up the marketing team to ensure a cohesive marketing and sales strategy is implemented. George Sale joins as Sales


Manager and comes from a retailing background, having previously worked in store management roles for Debenhams, Ikea, BHS and B&Q. He will manage and develop


three new business development managers in both the waste and energy divisions.


Three new appointments at Focus Consultants


Focus Consultants has welcomed three new members of staff to its professional teams. Sana Arif joins the Energy


Team as a graduate sustainability consultant. She graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems and completed her Masters during an internship with Blueprint. George Jones joins the


Funding, Research and Economic Development Team through the University of Nottingham’s Internship Scheme, having previously travelled and studied widely in the UK and South America. Evie Osbon joins as a


graduate project manager and has a background in the theatre and arts, having graduated with a BA (Hons) Acting Degree. She is the latest addition to Focus’ expanding London team and will offer support on cultural and heritage-focused projects.


The Dairy appoints new Account Manager


West Bridgford-based creative agency The Dairy has kicked off 2018 on a positive note by adding to its management team with new Account Manager Matt Smith. Nigel Rowlson, MD, said:


“Matt has a solid background behind him working for big names such as Saint-Gobain, with a proven track record of making a difference and managing large quantities of work. For me, he was a stand- out candidate to help the company continue to develop.”

Managed IT and communications provider Air-IT has added four new staff to its technical and back office teams following its recent relocation to larger premises in Sandiacre. Marie Talbot, an experienced remote support technician, has joined the


company’s service desk team, helping some of its 400+ clients with a variety of IT support needs. Meanwhile, Rebecca Talbot and Paige Smith occupy new roles as


Business Executive and Continuous Improvement Manager respectively. In a fourth appointment in as many months, Air-IT has also welcomed


Mark Taylor, who joins the business as Finance Manager. Air-IT’s Managing Director, James Healey, said: “I’m delighted to welcome


our new team members aboard. This is an exciting time for Air-IT as we look forward to our continued expansion and ongoing growth.”


Leadership appointments drive innovation forward


The University of Derby has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of two new pro vice-chancellor deans. Dr Warren Manning recently


joined the College of Engineering and Technology from De Montfort University where he was Pro Vice- Chancellor, Dean for the Faculty of Business and Law. Professor Keith McLay has been


appointed to the College of Arts, Humanities and Education at the university following nearly four years as Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at Canterbury Christ Church University. In their new roles, Dr Manning


and Professor McLay will be leading the university’s ambitious plans for the colleges, responding to the needs of the Government’s industrial strategy by forging close links with industry. Graduating with a degree in


Mechanical Engineering from Salford University and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Leeds University, Dr Manning has previously led departments in Engineering and Sustainable Development. He said: “I want to continue to


grow our strong ethos of getting students learning on site and this year we launch three new apprenticeships in Aerospace, Civil

Engineering and Cyber Security. “Our desire to work with local


businesses through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is also clear. We are currently working with Bombardier on a project to address the future of rail in Derby, and we start an ERDF-funded project with several local SMEs this year to provide technical support to transport engineering and manufacturing businesses.” A doctoral graduate from the


Scottish Centre for War Studies at the University of Glasgow, Professor McLay brings his experience as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Early Modern History, and Head of the Department of


History & Archaeology, at the University of Chester. He said: “I see my role as one of


creating context, environment and opportunity for colleagues and students to flourish and embody professional and personal pride at the university. “The college will enhance its


excellence in delivering engaging, innovative and applied degree programmes, underpinned by active research agendas. Our aim is to give students the opportunity of work-based, experiential learning and industry links, so they possess the skill-set, and crucially the experience, to be demonstrably employer-ready.”


Jillian becomes college governor


Jillian Thomas has become a governor of Chesterfield College. The governing body, known as


the Corporation, helps the college set and deliver strategic priorities, and scrutinises performance. Jillian, who will be a member of


the Finance and General Purposes Committee, said: “Outside the office I believe in playing a part in civic life. It is possible to be successful in business, but also to give back to society, which is why I was delighted to take on this role.” Jillian is a past president of


Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, the second woman to have held the post in the Chamber’s 160 year history.
