The New Year brings with it a new format for our village Carnival.
Having listened to feedback from parents and children, we have decided that it is the right time to expand and we will now be holding a PRINCE & PRINCESS SELECTION NIGHT. This will make our event truly inclusive, by letting the boys be part of our fl oat in the Carnival Parade too. In addition to the Prince and Princess, there will also be attendants selected to accompany. The venue (St Nicholas’s Church) has been booked for Saturday 3rd March and we will give you more details of timings and where you can pick up an entry form in next month’s issue.
Another new change is in the process of taking place, as the Carnival Committee has decided that it would be a good idea to register as a charity. We will soon become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and our Charitable Purpose will be to advance any charitable purpose for the benefi t of the community of Corfe Mullen in Dorset and the surrounding areas. We will have a number of Trustees, those being David Mills, Kate Bristow, Martine Morrison, Maggie Fray, Tom Gosling and Paul Harrison.
Last month we started to tell you about the benefi ciaries of the 2018 Carnival. This month we are highlighting Montacute School, which is a specialist school looking after 82 young people with complex learning diffi culties or disabilities. Many of the young people who attend this specialist school are on the autistic spectrum, others have sensory impairments, physical disabilities or high medical needs. All have problems with communication and learning. The school is looking to raise funds to pay towards their Step Outside initiative – an enhanced outside play area with equipment to both alleviate tension and act as a therapeutic and stimulating experience, to infl uence behaviour and development.
