I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year. It’s a time to say out with the old and in with the new, a time to make New Year’s resolutions.
It’s an ideal time to make changes to our way of life, to go on diets, to go to the gym or take on new challenges. I wonder what the next year has in store for you.
One thing is clear, we will be saying hello to new things and opportunities, while wanting to say goodbye to some things that we want to move on from or change. We can work with both of these in very practical ways – asking a few questions is one way to move forward towards our life goals:
Firstly, ask yourself the question, “where do I want to get to, what are my goals for 2018?” Secondly, “what will stop me achieving my hopes and aims this year?” Decide how you can navigate these hurdles and blocks to your aspirations and goals.
These questions can help prepare you for the year ahead. A key decision is what do you need or want to say goodbye too? What baggage do I want to leave in 2017?
These could be disappointments, relationships and friendships. A new year provides the opportunity for a new beginning, a fresh start.
For me personally I want to set up an arts and drama group for carers and their cared for. This will hopefully go some way to reduce isolation and loneliness.
We need to be people who seize the day, who reach out and make a difference.
