Corfe Mullen Youth Club

Saturday 2nd December saw myself and Chair of the Corfe Mullen Youth Trust Susan Jefferies receive a cheque for over £5,400 from the Co-Op.

A big thank you to them and to everyone who signed up for our cause. This will enable us to run another subsidised Summer activities programme as well as purchase resources for the club.

I am constantly receiving emails and calls from parents and guardians asking when the Youth Club is re-opening. All I can say is soon! We are equally frustrated as all we would like to do is provide a safe, social and educational space for the young people of Corfe Mullen to meet with their friends and have access to independent advice and support.

Building work has still not been completed yet, so keep an eye out for when we are due to re-open on the Youth Club pages of the Corfe Mullen Parish Council website and local papers and posters. While the building is closed you will fi nd myself and Jo undertaking outreach work on the streets of Corfe Mullen on Thursday and Friday evenings. Now joined by Louise and Paul, experienced youth workers. We are keen to start our programme of activities in the refurbished building when we can obtain access. Negotiations are progressing well with Dorset County Council, Lockyer’s School, the Parish Council and

the Youth Trust regarding rental agreements. At the time of writing, draft agreements have

been circulated and look to be approved soon.

We have been out walking and driving meeting young people where they meet and it surprises me their resilience in the cold weather. This week we will be supplying hot chocolate to keep their spirits up and to prevent hypothermia. Of the staff as well!

If you know anyone who would like to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we are recruiting for anyone in Year 9 or above at Bronze, Silver or Gold level. We currently meet on Monday evenings – please email for details. We have a good staff team of experienced and qualifi ed volunteers.

The Parish Council is hoping to improve the ramps area at the recreation ground. The consultation will be at the Village Hall on Wednesday 17th January at 6pm. Please contact me or the Parish Council for details.
