District Councillor Report

Landlords: The Christchurch and East Dorset Partnership is holding its Private Sector Landlords Forum on 31st January at 6pm at the Civic Offi ces in Christchurch. They welcome any landlord or managing agent who has property in the Christchurch or East Dorset areas to attend or anyone who is thinking of becoming a landlord. Call 01202 795041 or email jcollins@christchurchandeastdorset.gov.uk.

Healthy Homes Dorset is funded by Public Health Dorset and managed by Dorset County Council, providing free insulation (and in some cases heating equipment) to Dorset residents vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home, regardless of income. A team of qualifi ed energy advisors can help residents lower their bills, deal with damp or mould and help make homes warmer. If you would like more information call 0300 003 7023 (9am-6pm Monday-Friday) or visit www.healthyhomesdorset.org.uk.

Children Services: Parents and carers are being asked to complete a survey about support for families with children aged 0-5 in Dorset (with chance to win a £50 high street voucher. The County Council has a duty to make sure there are plenty of services available to help families during the early years of childhood. Complete the survey before 14th January at www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/0-5survey.

Christmas Trees: This year will be the fi rst time that the Dorset Waste Partnership (DWP) will not be collecting real Christmas trees from the kerbside. Alternative options include: 1) cut your tree into small pieces and put it in your garden waste bin if you have one; 2) take it to your local household recycling centre; 3) for a donation, you may be able to book a Christmas tree collection with a Dorset-based charity, such as Diverse Abilities or Weldmar Hospicecare.

Affordable Housing: Following the distribution of a leafl et recently, by a third party, I thought it best to clarify that East Dorset District Council HAS granted Outline Planning Permission for phased development of up to 112 homes, including affordable homes. This forms phase one of the Core Strategy. The Parish Council has been chasing the landowners, building company involved and the District Council for updates on the site. The leafl et’s publication has caused confusion for many resident in our village and this needs to be set straight.

If you would like to be kept up to date with information, please do follow my councillor Facebook page or Twitter account. With very best wishes to you for the New Year.
