FEDERATION Dispersed Families project

TheRAF Families’Federation has seen an increase in the number of issues raised by families living ‘outside the wire’,both Regulars and Reserves. Though the Future Accommodation Model (FAM)isstill being assessed and debateditislikely to see areduction in SFAand SLA and an increase in those living in privately owned homes.

Given this contextthe Federation is keen to identify the advantages and challenges of those who liveawayfrom their unit.

This is atwo year project, running until June 2019, during which we will gather evidenceand views, meet with policymakers, and work to ensurethatdispersed families areofferedsupportthatmeets their needs.

In particular we arekeen to understand whatisgood and bad about living outside the wire, and to identify examples of good practicethatcan be rolled out to other units.

What isaDispersed Family?

Weunderstand thatthereare manydifferent‘types’offamily who mightfall into the category, but forthe purposes of this projectweare specifically looking at the following groupswholive10ormoremiles from their parentunit:

• Families of Regular RAFpersonnel • Families of RAFReserves(especially FTRS and RAuxAF) • Unmarriedcohabitingcouples:thosein long-termrelationshipswhoshareasinglepermanentaddress • Families on remotelocation overseas postings who arenot living withinamilitarycommunity.

If youoryour family fit into one of these groups then we would love to hear from you. Getting involved
