Responding to your Views


In the Spring edition of Envoy, Air Cdre Harper spoke about the importance of engaging with surveys and using the Families Federation to represent your views. In this article he sets out some of the progress that has been made over the Summer responding to your feedback.


Ireceived an e-mail the other day inviting me to take part in the latest Armed Forces Continuous Attitude Survey.For the first time in afew years Ihave been asked to give my views. Towards the end of the survey,Iwas asked whether Iagree that the RAF will take effective action on the results of survey and for many this is the key question. Is the RAF listening?Howwill the RAF respond?

with career management. The RAF Leavers’ Survey,for example, highlights alack of promotion or progression prospects and the desire for more stability as key drivers to leave. The feedback is clear and the RAF cannot keep maintaining the same approach to career management while hoping that satisfaction will improve. It is time to change and we are. Over the coming months, we are going to improve career and talent management across all ranks. New posts are being created within Manning to make that happen and to improve the engagement between career managers and individuals. Much of this effort will be targeted at our junior ranks.


We will modernise the delivery of career management to all personnel. For the first time, 17,000 personnel at corporal and below will have access to adedicated career manager based at High Wycombe and all personnel, whatever their rank, will receive the same career management service. will now be able to able to play a greater role in their own career development. It will provide you with agreater say in your career choices and will allow career managers to better identify the right career choices and offer alternative employment options. Launched in October 2017 to personnel in the Logistics Trades initially,the new career management approach will be introduced for all Ground Trades personnel by April 2018. Among our junior ranks in particular,the RAF will finally move away from the list-based
