But it is not just in the area of career management that we listen. The latest round of surveys tell us that many of our personnel continue see their work life balance negatively and 31% disagreed with the statement ‘I am able to maintain abalance between personal and working life’.Weare listening. Over the past two years we have introduced three new leave policies so that personnel can call-forward leave, transfer leave or take enhanced leave. We have introduced anew Career Intermissions Policy while simultaneously developing a range of flexible working practices (working compressed hours, having variable start and finish times or working from home) and extending the Flexible Duties trial to all personnel. Across the RAF,722 applications for flexible


working/new leave types have been approved and the Flexible Duties trial has been extended to all personnel. We have also received 82 applications for Flexible Duties and the vast majority have been approved. We lead Defence in the development of parenting- focussed policies such as shared parental leave, shared parental pay, increased rights to adoption leave


and time to attend ante-natal and pre-adoption appointments. If you think any of these can help you, just ask at your local General Offices or go online to the RAF Families Federation website at raf-ff.org.uk.


Of course there is more we can do and more we are doing. But we are responding; we are listening and we are focussing on our people. 
