Countdown to 2018...
Is that jingle bells I hear? As soon as the last fi rework bangs, we are ‘offi cially’ allowed to start talking about Christmas... I just love this time of year, especially being part of the community in Upton and Lytchett Minster. There is such a good atmosphere living here and that shines even brighter as we join the Town Council and all gather around the tree to sing carols after their Santa Parade around Upton. This year it is on Thursday 14th December – the Parade will fi nish at the doctors surgery at 6.20pm, ready for the carols at 6.30pm. We hope to see you there or afterwards at the Community Centre for refreshments.
I am new to the committee this year and it gives me great pleasure to be involved in this fantastic small group of dedicated volunteers who create wonderful events throughout the year in order to fund our amazing carnival each year. I’m sure you’ll agree it just keeps on growing and going from strength to strength! We would not be able to provide these great events without the help and support of local businesses, schools and your involvement in our community, so thank you for that.
We are always looking for more help and whether it’s joining the committee and having lots of input or just as an occasional helper at events, we would very much welcome you. We are already thinking about our 2018 carnival and bookings for stalls, fl oats and displays are now being taken, as are advertising bookings for the programme. Please contact Sarah at

Children’s
Christmas Party: Saturday 9th December, from 3-5.30pm at Upton Community Centre. Tickets £3 available from Upton Post Offi ce, Upton Central Cafe, Upton Infant School and Upton Social Club.
This always proves a very popular and fun event for children aged reception to 10 years. There will be craft, dancing, food and if we are lucky, the big man in the red coat might even visit! Don’t let your children miss
out...buy your ticket today (only 100 available!).
Fun Run: Sunday 13th May 2018 at Upton House.
Other news: We presented a cheque in November for £500 to fund a Christmas lunch for Upton Day Centre. If you have a charity or project that you would like to put forward, please contact us with the name and contact details for them to be entered into a ballot to be our charity on the day of the carnival next year.

The Beacon Association Community Art Strand
We have been having a quiet few months since the Carnival but are now busy preparing for Christmas. We have been involved in creating a new Christmas Mural to be displayed in the Methodist Church with the Pre School Nursery, the Brownies and the Methodist Art Club and are looking forward to viewing it in the Church Garden.
There is a lot going on in Upton for Christmas and the Art Strand is pleased to be involved in the Council’s Christmas town makeover and we look forward to viewing the murals and decorations next month.
