CASE STUDY: EXPLORING THE WORLD WITHOUT LEAVING THE CLASSROOM!


‘Our crowdfunding project was set up to raise money for equipment to enable us to use augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). We used Rocket Fund, and the beauty of this platform is that you can be imaginative and raise money for tech products you might not otherwise get to try out. We chose to introduce AR and VR to


the classroom so that children across different year groups could gain a deeper understanding of the things they are studying. Many of our students may not be able to travel much, but now they can explore new places and situations during the school day. The children became really involved


in the campaign to raise money and reached out to their friends and family,


as well as members of the local community. They also contributed to the pitch and accompanying video. The project was a wonderful way to


teach students about crowdfunding and all the related topics, from online safety to digital marketing. The effort was worth it and in the end we even received a contribution from a local Councillor and a business in Yorkshire. The children felt really excited and attered that such a range of people were buying into their project! Since securing the funding of £1,523


and investing in the new resources, Year 3 have explored buildings in Rome, while Year 4 spent a lesson under the sea! This has had an enormous impact on their understanding of their topics.


We wanted as many of the pupils as


possible to benet so we are training some of the children as “digital leaders” so that they can share their knowledge of using the equipment with both teachers and classmates.’ Donna Shah, Computing Specialist at Newington Green Primary School, London (422 pupils)  Rocket Fund is a new crowdfunding platform for schools, designed to empower teachers to try new things and enable pupils to access the latest technology.
