While practical cookery is now compulsory, many schools are nding it dif cult due to a lack of facilities. Which is why UK home appliance brand Belling has launched the ‘Belling Cookery Club’. Belling is keen to help the next generation embrace a love of cooking, therefore it’s awarding £2,000-worth of cooking appliances to two primary schools. a picture of their favourite nutritionally balanced meal, explaining why they like it and why it’s healthy. Pupils can work on the entry individually or as a class, and each school will be asked to select one entry to be sent to Belling alongside a brief explanation from a member of staff about the school’s existing facilities and what winning the prize would mean. WHO PRIZES AND OUTCOMES
3-18 years
Take part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch by counting the birds in your school grounds from 2 Jan to 16 Feb 2018. Run it with any age group – resources are available to help. Every teacher that registers will receive a free bird identification poster.
11-19 years
Students are pledged £10 and have between 12 Feb and 16 Mar to set up a business. Young Enterprise can help kickstart your Tenner Challenge by running a half-day masterclass. An awards ceremony is held in May for winning students and teachers.

Age 4+ Ask pupils to donate £1 in exchange for dressing up in festive knits on Friday, 15 Dec. By taking part, children will help Save the Children solve serious problems and save lives around the world.
9-11 years
Students are asked to create a short video, explaining how they would design a habitation module for the first crew to Mars. The programme includes digital resources such as lesson plans. Pupils can enter individually or as a group, with two £5,000 STEM grants and iPads among the prizes.

5-11 years
GYOP aims to educate KS1 and KS2 children about healthy eating, how things grow and where food comes from. Sign up to receive a free schools kit. Planting takes place in March with harvesting 14 weeks later. Once the potatoes are harvested, pupils enter their weights to win prizes for their school.

NSPCC Number Day

3-18 years
Number Day is a great way to engage pupils with maths, while raising money for the NSPCC. On Friday, 2 Feb teachers can challenge their pupils with activities such as ‘Who wants to be a Mathionnaire?’ and ‘Quick-fire Tricksy Maths’, plus new challenges.
