COMMUNITY PHARMACY SERVICE INITIATIVE

ENTRY CAN BE BY NOMINATION OR BY PERSONAL APPLICATION.

With community pharmacy increasingly being viewed as the ‘first port of call for healthcare’, it’s vitally important that the profession provides an increased range of services to its local patients.

For that reason, this award is designed to recognise those, who have de- finitive evidence of how they have grown their offering to their community through innovative business development, particularly that which has been supported by strategic investment.

In addition to consideration of the outcomes of this business development, the judges will also be looking at how this development has been received in the community, with a particular focus on the long-term goals that have been put in place.

WHO CAN ENTER? This category is open to all pharmacists and their teams working in either independent or chain pharmacies, who have developed their business through the implementation of new strategies, the launch of new products or services, or through a successful merger or acquisition.

GENERAL AWARDS CRITERIA  Enthusiasm and commitment to the enhancement of community pharmacy in Northern Ireland

 Exceptional quality above and beyond what is expected  An ability to overcome challenges in pursuit of goals  Evidence of how performance was measured and benchmarked in addition to proof of project success/improved patient outcomes.

JUDGES WILL BE LOOKING FOR:  Evidence of the original business plan, which should indicate sound sales and marketing strategies

 Identification of the need and value of the project to the community  Evidence of how the benefits of the project could be sustained in the longer term, in addition to evidence of plans for further research and development

JUDITH DOWEY, ANDERSONS PHARMACY, PORTADOWN ‘I did my independent prescribing with a view to strengthening links with the GP practice,’ Judith told PiF. ‘I chose this area because it was obvious that it was an issue that needed tackled, so it’s a real ‘win-win’ for everyone!’
