restuarant review THE IVY Cobham Brasserie

The Ivy Cobham Brasserie has been one of the most anticipated and glitziest new restaurant openings this year bringing the original glamour and familiar luxury of The Ivy brand to Cobham high street. It’s already become a place to see and be seen so does it live up to all the hype?

Situated in a grade-II listed building, the new design, vibrant décor, and layout have transformed it into an elegant dining destination with an orangery and delightful garden at the rear. The staff are friendly, the service attentive and slick to the standard you would expect in a top hotel, with food of the highest order, and chic fixtures and fittings to match. There’s an unmistakeable feel of vintage Art Deco from the lavish décor down to the old style in design menu, with a variable choice from indulgent fine dining to old favourites, such as prawn cocktails and hamburgers. Their ethos “Inclusive to Everyone” is truly alive and kicking with guests welcomed all day for special occasions or just a coffee and brunch after yoga.

We started the night with an aptly named ‘Cobham Royale’ cocktail and chose starters of a tasty mouth watering Tuna Carpaccio and delicate Smoked Salmon and Crab. Both dishes were originally presented, exceeding our expectations, and perfectly accompanied by The Ivy’s exquisite French rose Chateau d’Esclans, Whispering Angel. A pale pink, elegant, fresh and Provencal rose with an unexpected depth and complexity. The sommelier added a lovely touch bringing a Jeroboam bottle of our wine to the table to taste before buying, just the kind of decadence one might expect from The Ivy!

For the main course, I chose the 200g succulent prime centre cut grass fed English fillet cooked to perfection that melted like butter, served with a Béarnaise sauce and thick cut chips. My partner chose the Blackened cod fillet baked in a banana leaf which was voted the best dish of the night! Followed by “Centre Court” a tantalising white chocolate and strawberry dessert to celebrate Wimbledon! The Ivy is a chic spot to linger all day long over breakfast, lunch or dinner and by the chattering hum all around us, we can say that it’s already a hit with Cobham’s locals. The iconic Restaurant celebrates 100 years of a Landmark in London this year and the good news is that it will also be coming to the new Tunsgate quarter in Guildford this Autumn!
