interiors DecorexCelebrates 40 Years of Interior Style

This year Decorex celebrates 40 years of design collaborations, focusing both on the strength of its past and current relationships and importantly looking towards future partnerships.

T

o mark the 40th edition of Decorex International brought together its friends – old and new – at Syon House to celebrate the past, present and future of design. A decadent banquet was imagined in Syon House’s Robert Adam’s state dining room for the industry’s creative elite – Hassan Abdullah, Sophie Ashby, Anna Burles, Luke Edward Hall, Simon Hamilton, Daniel Hopwood, Victoria Meale, Marcin Rusak, Francis Sultana, Sue Timney, Joanna Wood and Freddy van Zevenbergen – coming together to create a magnificent tableau vivant for our 2017 campaign.

The show’s 2017 edition will also include a number of notable feature spaces and will see the return of Future Heritage: the acclaimed display of work by some of the leading emerging names in British craft. Curated by renowned design and applied arts critic, Corinne Julius, Future Heritage will feature new work exclusively commissioned for the show. This year makers will include designers Helen Carnac, David Gates, Simon Hassan, Merel Karhof, and Naomi McIntosh.

Decorex continues to be the design destination for discovering exciting new talent and 2017 will be no exception. Over 30% of the exhibitors to Decorex will be new this year and will range from lighting and furniture to textiles, decorative accessories and flooring.

Annie Sloan, widely recognised as one of the world’s most respected experts in paint and colour, will be at Decorex this year, and will showcase its ‘Wall Paint by Annie Sloan’ collection. The range includes sixteen of the most popular decorative and historic colours from its ‘Chalk Paint’ palette, and will feature six new colours introduced this year: Emperor's Silk, Napoleonic Blue, Amsterdam Green, Antoinette, Provence and English Yellow.

Amy Kent will debut her ‘Art on Rugs’ collaboration with her sister, artist Lucy Kent. The collection is comprised of 11 designs, each one interpreting her sister’s abstract paintings, and will also include a new design – The Kiss. This latest edition, inspired by two stones touching on a river bank, is being made in India in hand-knotted wool with the pattern in art silk.

French company Valombreuse will present its range of embroidered linen for the bedroom, bathroom and dining room. Inspired by the tradition of French embroidery and contemporary aesthetics, it uses the highest quality of materials including satin, percale and cotton veil, and equips some of the world’s most prestigious palaces and hotels, such as The Elysée Palace, Quay d’Orsay and The Kremlin.

Family run company Lala Curio, a home decor brand based in Hong Kong that specialises in playfully crafted furnishings, decorative objects, cloisonné tiles and wallpaper preserving forgotten arts, will also

be joining the show. Expect an array of theatrical designs, celebrating ancient artisanship with contemporary humour.

Studio 198 will be showcasing its innovative, bespoke wall panelling designs. Made in its London studio, the panels can be produced in almost any colour, shape and scale to create striking and captivating centrepieces from oriental inspired designs to figurative patterns.

Fanny Shorter, a designer and printmaker, will also present her work for the first time. Her distinctive and detailed designs largely inspired by her English upbringing, has its roots in British craftsmanship, but with a contemporary aesthetic. See strong, bright patterns in prints such as Birds & Beasts, Fig and Calathea.

Other names to look out for include: Hunt & Hope, Faolchú; Genevieve Bennett; Harrison Spinks; Mizzi Studio; Oceanair; Susi Bellamy Cushions; The Lamp Factory; Vaughan; Knots Rugs and Westbury Garden Rooms.
