The Keep Upton Tidy Group met in August at the Council offi ces in Morland Way to review progress during 2017 and confi rm arrangements for the next litter pick. Our Vice Chairman Fred Drane advised that a logo has been agreed for Keep Upton Tidy and this will be utilised as soon as possible and help promote the group’s activities and support our aim of a cleaner town. Fred also brought the group up-to-date with the various ‘Litter Free’ initiatives, both in our area and nationally. As a group we will link in with this to make sure Upton gets as much benefi t as possible.
The shops in our town can be the origin (but not the cause) of litter, as thoughtless purchasers discard packing, bottles, etc. We appreciate the help we get from shopkeepers, particularly when it is known by them that what they sell can lead to littering around the town. Adequate bins nearby and notices to customers can help and I am pleased to see this already operated by some shops. We should all encourage shopkeepers to support the campaign to keep our streets tidy.
Our next Community Litter Pick will be at 10am on Sunday 8th October, meeting at the Surgery and Library Car Park in Upton. As usual this is limited to two hours and all equipment is provided. We usually have a big turn out from the Guides and some members of the community. It would of course be wonderful to see some new people too – you will be very welcome.
The next meeting of the Keep Upton Tidy Group will be at 6pm on Wednesday 1st November at the Council Offi ces at Morland Way. Please note this is a change of venue. If anyone would like to attend they would be most welcome. Please contact one of the offi cers above to make sure we are aware you are coming. We are always delighted to see new faces, even as a one off to see what we do or bring up a litter concern. Meanwhile thanks to all those who have been looking after their areas or making sure litter gets to a bin.
Finally we would ask residents to be vigilant and advise the above named offi cers of any litter, fl y- tipping, dog fouling or overgrown pathways (or bins that have not been emptied) and we will do our best to resolve the problem.
