Lytchett Minster & Upton Gardening Club


In July, James Harper talked on ‘My Life in Watercress.’ We had no idea of the scale of the watercress industry, from growing and transporting it all over the world, to experiments at local hospitals with watercress drinks for cancer patients, which is achieving some good results. What an interesting evening, with great pictures. We all received watercress to bring home. James charged no fee but asked for a donation to Julia’s House. What a worthwhile evening all round!


Our committee meets on Monday 11th September, so if you have any ideas of how we can improve our club or ideas for speakers, please let me know before then.


We hope you have enjoyed our mural depicting all aspects of our club from its inception in 1942 to the present day, positioned behind the clock tower. Over the next few weeks, you will begin to see the fl ower bed being planted with perennials and sensory plants to enhance the view at Upton Crossroads.

and pleasure of visiting many different countries in the world and have explored a wide variety of their public and private gardens. These travels have taken me to Bhutan, parts of China, Vietnam and other destinations in the Far East, New Zealand, Europe, America, the Caribbean and the Baltic. It gives me great pleasure to share my experiences and photographs of these gardens with others.’
