Mary’s Meals | 27 High Street, Dunblane

Barty’s solicitors, which recently merged with Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP, is idyllically situated in the High Street in Dunblane. The office is set back from the pavement with a front garden and has a lower floor nestled into the hill with a small rear garden, and riverside views over the children’s playpark and the Cathedral.

We recently received a number of anxious callers advising us that a mother duck and her ducklings were in the rear garden and while the ducklings could get through the mesh on the garden gate, the mother duck was trapped. One of us dutifully went down to the garden, but there was no sign of the mother duck or her ducklings so we left the garden gate open until close of business, in the hope that mother duck and her young ones would be re-united.

Sometime after 5pm I become conscious of a loud quacking noise followed by a number of softer cheeps… I unearthed the keys for the back door and ran downstairs. Outside I discovered mother duck at the gate so I opened it trying to usher her out.. ducks don’t herd easily let me tell you! However, she eventually realised her route and waddled through the gate while the ducklings, scuttled to and fro through the gate mesh joining her on the other side, whereupon they merrily quacked their way to the river. There were a lot of them - at least ten.

A few wise-cracking locals have suggested the ducks wanted out of Barty’s to avoid the fees – my response to that is, of course, that ducks bring their “bills” with them…!
