Good vibrations at the Bridge of Allan Highland games where President George Morrison (right) and Chair of Community Services Stuart Brown prepare for the serving of the Rotary Club’s favourite crêpes.
“Good Vibrations...”
This song became the anthem of what is now called the “Flower Power” era, and is considered by many to be one of he fi nest pop songs ever written.
So what has that to do with the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane? There is a change in the air as far as the Club is concerned. New President George Morrison wants to see changes in his year of offi ce. So there are many very good vibrations in the Club at present.
George, as one of the youngest Presidents in the Club’s history, wants to make the Club more user friendly to potential new younger members. Already, he has reduced some of the more traditional formal aspects of our regular meetings.
Together with Rod Jones, the Club’s Director of Fun, George is striving to make the Club an organisation which not only continues to raise considerable sums of money for a number of charities, but also has a range of social events for members and partners or just friends. These vary from visits to places of interest, theatrical performances, and various sporting activities to suit a wide range of interests and skills.
Also, “Good Vibrations”, being the anthem of Flower Power, is very appropriate for George’s Year in offi ce as his background is very much involved with fl owers of many types through his ownership of Molawn garden centre. However, not only is George personally vital to the Club, without him making storage and transport facilities available for much of the equipment used at most of the major fundraising events, it would be very diffi cult to run these activities so effi ciently.
