Can youplease explain to readers howTheCampbellBurnsMetabolic Trust came tobe started? Likemany newly formed charities, the Trust came in to existence following a personal experience; Campbellwas our nephew. InApril 2012, at the age of just 8weeks, Campbellwas diagnosedwith Leigh’s Disease - an extremely rare, terminal, metabolic condition. He passed away peacefully in September aged 8 months. The charitywas established in his name by his parents and other immediate relatives, to help support families,who like ours, faced the multiple challenges of livingwith a metabolic condition.

You have organiseda fantastic event to helpraisemoney for the charity,what can any attendees expect on theday? It is our 5thBirthday sowe have lots of celebrations planned! Apart from the golf,which takes place on the stunningNauntonDownsGolf Course, there are a selection of on the course competitions including the hotly contestedDapper DebonairAward presented to the golfer considered to have themost style and sophistication. The infamous LashBuggywill also be making a return, delivering on the course refreshments to thirsty golfers andwe have a birthday cake! Following dinner, the eveningwill kick offwith prize giving and speeches, finally rounding offwith a fundraising auction. There’s somuchmore than just golf!
What is next for the future of the charity? We recently hit amilestone, awarding our 600th grant to a family. Itwas an
incredible feeling.We are setting our sights on the next target; itwould be fantastic to say in another year’s time thatwe have awarded our 800th or even 1000th grant! 2017 and is a big year for the golf too, itwill mark our 5th AnnualGolfDay and we’re already planning a big birthday bash!
Howcan readers helpsupport the charity? Get involved!CBMT is run entirely by volunteers, and it’s taught us that time it themost precious commodity you can give.We always need peoplewho can spare an hour to helpwith events or take on a challenge of their own for us. Donation of skill sets is also invaluable,whether it’s helping to design a leaflet for us, or churning out cupcakes for a bake sale. Joining in, supporting us at events and raising the profile of the Trust helps us not only raisemoney, but also to reach the familieswhomost need it, that never even knewwewere there.
