There aremany benefits towaking up early and embracing the day. One tip that I have picked up along theway is to “refuse the snooze”. Let’s face it; sometimes it is so tempting to press the snooze button and to snuggle up under the warmth and comfort of our duvets and drift back into a semi- slumber.However, this is not the bestway to start the day.Waking up and getting up to appreciatewhat the day has in storewill bring you far more rewards. In thewords of the Dalai Lama:
“Everyday,thinkasyouwakeup, ‘TodayIamfortunatetohave wokenup,Iamalive,Ihavea precioushumanlife,Iamnot goingtowasteit.”
Here are some of 3 key benefits of getting up early:
• Itwill allowyou thinking time. This is really important in the fast-paced world thatwe find ourselves living in –we don’t always allowourselves permission to have some quality thinking time.
• Youwill be able to factor a bit of extra “you” time in before the rest of theworld starts tomake its demands upon you.
• Youwill find that, by giving yourself some extra time, youwon’t find yourself rushing around playing catch-up and your stress levelswill be far bettermanaged.
So, if you strugglewith being an early riser, here are 3 tips that will help you:
• Start slowly, bywaking just 15-30 minutes earlier than
usual.Get used to this for a fewdays. Then cut back another 15minutes. Do this gradually until you achieve the goal time that works best for you.
• Make a conscious decision to go to bed earlier. Youmight be used to staying up latewatching TV but if you continue this habitwhile trying to get up earlier, sooner or later one is going to give.
• Use self-talk to reinforce the benefits of getting up early ad remind yourself ofwhat you get out of it to keepmotivated.
