Another milestone for the club was the 100th edition of our award winning KLIPs. I was del ighted to celebrate this achievement by presenting Grace with a framed picture of the cover. Well done Grace and thank you for your tireless efforts. The speaker on the 18th July was John McManus who gave us an insight into the long lost industry of coal mining in the E a s t Ne u k . I t wa s v e r y surprising to find that, scattered around this area, there is a wealth of evidence of old mine workings and a few abandoned mine shafts ready to gobble up the unwary. On the 25th July we had a very int e r e s t ing tal k by John Spackman on the background, particularly in St Andrews, of Coastal Rowing. We were all surprised to hear about the whole process of building the ‘skiff’ by the club members and the spectacular growth around the coast of the UK and future aspirations of this activity. with the St Andrews Club and have had a few meetings with President Gordon Wowk to discuss areas of mutual interest. Watch this space! The first month of my year has already passed at lightning speed and has been very enjoyable – onwards and upwards.

Thanks to the ingenuity of Isobel Clifford, there was a quiz about 100 in different languages in the last edition of Klips - the 100th edition. Only two people were brave enough to have a go. Congratulations to George McIntosh who got them all correct and to Fiona Wells who was a close runner up. The answers are shown below.
