From Deep Woods to Large Gatherings! by Paul Andrew Doyle, Founder, Publisher & CEO
Santa Rosa, CA. ~ It only seemed like a few moments ago... I was sitting next to a magnificent waterfall listening to the constant semi-loud rush of 42 degree creek water, ex- periencing 90 degree tempera- tures and fighting off mosqui- toes poised to pounce on any bodily location untouched by a constant application of ‘Deep Woods’ spray during a two week camping excursion in the mountains of central Oregon. Flash-forward: I am in front of a group of 50 + Rotary Club members taking this picture prior to talking to them about Upbeat Times. In the last many years I’ve been invited to talk to groups,
“Sometimes you just have to jump in a mud puddle
because it’s
there. Never get so old that you forget about
having fun.” Tom Giaquinto

both large and small, and even getting paid for it,
telling sto-
ries about positive adventure, communication philosophy and running this paper. It is, and has always been an honor. When I was young I attempted to entertain everyone, just to get peoples attention, and as my mom put it, to the point where my school teachers would call my mom directly, in tears. But, of course, it is much different now! I actually have something to say, most of the time. For those of you who go-go-
go all the time, camping in the woods with no cell phone, no computer or electricity, except for flash lights and bon-fires, is a great experience! It is de-
lightfully refreshing & quiet. No meetings, and for me, no writing and interviewing and...
peace...so much peace! I forgot I was even living in Sonoma County. For two weeks our camp spot was our home. My wife got to read many books. My daughter read over 11 full sized novels, plus the one book that had taken me six months to
finish...in about two hours. (It’s a time thing) But I finally finished one whole book too! I was cooking most of the time. Whoosh!!!... the two weeks
were done! I’m now in front of Te Rotary Club of Santa Rosa West talking about many vari- ous subjects and the philosophy behind my ever popular paper
and why it continues to grow among the citizens and busi- ness owners, both young and a bit older. It’s because people want and need it. Tey’re tired, like all of us, of the news that is just plain horrible and useless much of the time. But that’s not what we do, so there’s no need to discuss it! I suggest, as my late friend Peter Menth Senior said, “A good prescription for those bad days filled with the unwanted challenges of life, get a subscription to and or read the Upbeat Times!”
...Some- thing like that anyway. It is not to take place of your daily news, just a good fun break from it! A contrast of life, one might say. I want to thank Chris Parr for
