Bill Bryson Golf Coach 101: The Bounce Back
Santa Rosa, CA. ~ We all love it when we make a ten foot putt to save par. We love it even more when we sink a twenty- footer for birdie. But making a double or even a triple bo- gey is no walk in the park. We feel beat-down and wonder; is there any relief in sight?
Learning
how to bounce back from adver- sity is not option- al, it is essential. What

the men from the boys in this fi eld is grit, guile and guts. Having an active

tion and knowing how to utilize it to create a positive future rather than seeking to dwell on a horrifi c past is how we learn to rise above the carnage.
Learning the art of the bounce-back is no mean feat. We all know what the val- ley of death and despair looks like. Most golfers are well- versed in the terrain. Surviving it of course should feel like a badge of honor. Knowing how to tap into that wellspring of knowledge is not about swing mechanics but rather intuitive
something may seem in golf or in life we must learn this subtle art of letting go. Zen mind is a beginner’s mind and when we observe the emptiness in our meditations there emerges a great sense of freedom. Great art arises out from nothing- ness as does the great shot- making artistry of golfers who rise from the ashes of despair
one over par. Of course getting back on
the good foot is never easy. No one should kid themselves into thinking this game of golf is a slam-dunk above the rim. Lots of practice and copious amounts of meditation are re- quired to reach the mountain’s summit. A New York city taxi- cab can’t take us to the top but a healthy imagination can. And should your cup be too full, it’s ok to fi nd it empty again.
