ended the term in style. We are thrilled that our
Year 5 Athletics Team became the East Dorset Athletics champions after competing in the championship and
adding to the Lockyer’s Middle School silverware with the coveted Ward Goodman Cup.
Fifteen girls from dress making club took part in the Corfe Hills School Fashion Show 2017. Assisted by Mrs Barrow, Mrs Bowers and Mrs Moss, the girls designed and made a pair of trousers and a maxi dress. They had two sets, learning two choreography routines and a quick change!
As expected, the girls rose to the occasion and represented Lockyer’s Middle School to a phenomenal level and we’re very proud of them.
Sandwalk 2017
It was another successful Sandwalk for Corfe Hills School on 30th June, when students participated in their annual charity walk along our spectacular Dorset coastline.
Over 600 students and 50 members of staff across Years 9, 10 and 12 gathered together for a six-mile walk from Shore Road to Bournemouth pier and back in order to raise money for their two chosen charities: Poole Hospital Cancer Treatment Trust and Julia’s House. These charities were chosen by students from the school. Many students express their passion for these charities as they are close to their hearts, with a Year 10 student saying, “Julia’s House is such an important charity to me as I know someone my age there, and I want to help her and other young people in similar situations.”
This is a great way for all year groups to interact and come together as a community. As we
34
walked down the beach, we could see sixth formers bonding with the lower school. Deputy Head Boy, Callum Robson, said “I love this event; it really brings the school together and makes me feel like a part of a community.”
As a school, we hope to continue to support both of these local charities and many more in future events. The new year team for the academic year starting September 2017
already have some unique and exciting ideas for a selection of events to fundraise for charity. Our annual Sandwalk will occur again around this time next year, with no doubt it will be as successful as the last.

We are pleased that work on rebuilding the old youth centre and repurposing it into our new music room and a community space is underway. There will also be three superb music practice rooms. Together with other essential building work, this will create
invaluable class spaces for our record number of 496 pupils starting in September. We are grateful to Dorset County Council for their continued support with this project.
Finally, we would like to invite you to our school open evening on Thursday 21st September 2017, from 6-8pm. See you there.
