O SUPERHERO CAN blast past the competition without preparation, so on 12 June the Superhero Series had a select few

trial the course and get some practise in at Dorney Lake. The founder of the series and Paralympian, Sophia Warner, encourages all who have signed up to get in shape start setting their goals with the full event just two MONTHS AWAY! The Superhero Series is the only mass-participation

sports series dedicated to the everyday superhero (the UK’s 12.9 million people with disabilities) and in line with the series’ bold and gutsy attitude the Superhero Mini Tri wasn’t small scale. Five of the celebrity team captains took a first look at the course. This included team captains Adam Hills and Anne Dickins, who came along to meet their Superhero Squads and work on some cunning tactics while also building up some all- important team spirit. Paralympian and Superhero Series founder Sophia

Warner said: “It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm of the celebrity team captains. I know it means a lot to their teammates to have them come along and show their competitive nature. I hope this drives these teams to success and helps them enjoy the event on the 19th August all the more.” Comedian, TV star and team captain, Adam Hills,

said “I am very much enjoyed meeting my team. I am competitive so the Superhero Mini Tri was great chance to meet them and discuss our secret plan to success! I would certainly be very pleased if my team or I manage to blast past a Paralympian at the full event in August.” At the Superhero Mini Tri event on 12 June several of

the 20 celebrity team captains attended and practised their swimming, cycling and running/pushing ahead of the event in August. Many commented that the trial

event made clear to them just how much work they had left to do ahead of competing in the full Superhero Tri with their teams. However, they did enjoy fine tuning their Superpower techniques and they hope the trial day encouraged even more Everyday Superheroes to sign up for the event in August! Twenty Celebrities Team Captains in all will be taking

part to show their support for a series that throws out restrictive rules and regulations that can deter or prevent many people with disabilities from taking part in organised events. The emphasis is very much on fun, and masks, capes and pants over tights are positively encouraged. The Superhero Series is also calling out for the

nation’s most daring volunteers to sign up for the event at Dorney Lake on 19 August. There are a range of roles available that could well see people helping out the teams captained by Adam Hills and Anne Dickins. Anyone able to find their inner Superhero and help out is welcome.
