Do you want to improve services for all disabled people?

Rica (The Research Institute for Consumer Affairs) is a disabled-led consumer research charity that works closely with older and disabled people. It has a research panel called RicaWatch which has over 700 people of all ages with a wide range of disabilities and impairments and it’s growing all the time.

For too long in the UK there’s

been disjointed planning in the design of products and services and a failure to appreciate people’s needs for them to be really accessible and inclusive. Rica is determined to improve things through its research and this is where you come in - join RicaWatch and use your experience and knowledge to help improve products and services!

RicaWatch members have carried out research including:

● mystery shopping

investigating specialist disability retailers and services.

● packaging testing of food and drinks products for ease of opening.

● customer feedback on supermarket services and rail passenger assistance.

● surveys such as users’ experiences of mobility scooters, sport and train safety

● research to help Rica find which smaller scooters can go on public transport.

● usability testing, a technique which evaluates a product by testing it on users to find out how everyday people use a product or service – most recently, the British Gas Hive 2 thermostat.

Do you know your consumer rights?

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 makes your rights as a consumer easier to understand and now covers online shopping as well as goods and services bought in shops. If you've bought something and it's broken, doesn't work, or isn't what you'd expected, find out here when you can claim, and who can help you with your complaint. Citizens Advice can tell you about your rights when buying online or in person. Phone them on 0345 404 0506 or 0345 404 0505 (Welsh language) www.citizensadvice.org.uk For more information about the range of Rica’s information, see www.rica.org.uk or phone Rica on 020 7427 2460.
