Springdale First School News

Our Summer Term events are well underway, with our enjoying a variety of opportunities.

Paticipating in community events is important to our school and it was a real pleasure for our children to take part in Corfe Mullen carnival. The theme, ‘Springing Sixties’ was chosen because the school opened in the 1960s. The children’s fl ower power costumes were amazing and we were delighted to be awarded fi rst prize. I am very grateful to the staff who gave their time and effort to make this possible.

Travelling safely and healthily to and from school is something we promote through regular ‘Walk, Cycle or Scooter to School’ events. This year’s special week started off with a visit from some extreme cyclists who enthralled and excited the children with a range of stunts. Important safety messages were also shared with the children.

Our recent Sports Mornings gave the children the opportunity to participate in a variety of track and fi eld events. True to form, the British weather

added a few challenges – but it didn’t stop the fun! There were many instances of good

along with a healthy competitive spirit and determination from the children to do their very best. The mini-marathon for Key Stage 2 children takes them around the site, including through the woodland, and is an annual highlight. Endurance is an important quality and everyone was touched by the kindness shown by many children as they encouraged and supported one another.

We’re looking forward to the remainder of the term, which has lots more excitement in store.

On Thursday 11th May, the Design & Technology department at Corfe Hills School held its fi rst Showcase Exhibition.

The work of students from Years 11 to 13 was displayed in the main hall to allow parents and staff to celebrate the outstanding and creative work that has been designed and manufactured by students throughout the year as part of their GCSE and A-Level projects.

The evening also featured an awards ceremony, with awards across several categories including;

36

Most Creative, Biggest Perfectionist, Chef of Year, Best A-Level Project and The Design & Technology Project of the Year 2017.

The presentation was greatly received by staff and parents, with a high turn-out showing the fantastic support for the students and their achievements.

The Design & Technology department would like to thank all in attendance for ensuring the evening was a success and we look forward to turning the Showcase into an annual event.

Explore, leap, climb and party to the max at the area’s largest soft play and party centre.
