The Thames Valley GROWTH SPOTLIGHT

It’s good practice to re-assess strategies now and then, but organisations now need to learn to use a wide- angle lens, to account for changing competitive sets and consumer and buyer behaviour
The Brexit-Trump environment is an opportunity for organisations to update their capabilities in strategy development; an upgrade to a ‘next generation’ business model could provide compelling customer experiences at lower costs.
More than ever, companies need to be attuned to changes in the marketplace, and setting up a political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal (PESTEL surveillance group is a good starting point.
Scenario planning
When analysing threats and opportunities, scenario planning helps organisations react rapidly to what they can leverage and what they need to fall back on if cornered. To be competitive, their agility and capability of redeploying resources needs to increase to exploit opportunities.
Being better and faster
This means faster and better use of information, driven by the digital economy and enabled by technology:
• profiling customer and client

journeys and experiences to eliminate waste, and maximising collaboration
• moving from uncoordinated efforts within silos, to launching integrated operational- improvement programmes
• re-imagining customer experiences; this can simplify and streamline processes, unlocking value.
Companies must identify where value is created, and match resources accordingly. The key may be the engagement of staff, customers and other business-critical stakeholders.
Your organisation therefore needs to understand how the drivers of the stakeholders are changing, starting by having realistic and compelling goals that allow staff to see where their contribution makes a difference, while linking to their drivers.
Henley Business School’s Strategy Programme is a great opportunity for senior executives and board members to enhance their analytical and leadership skills to meet these new challenges.
The Thames Valley Growth Spotlight will focus on the fastest-growing companies in the region
Sponsored by leading law firm Penningtons Manches, the Growth Spotlight will highlight private businesses that are showing exceptional sales growth and are fast- tracking to future success.
Each quarter the Spotlight will feature 10 companies that stand out. These will be scaled-up businesses – companies growing either organically or by acquisition – that show the entrepreneurial spirit in the Thames Valley. Quarterly features will include a brief commentary from these businesses outlining reasons contributing to their growth.
We will also be inviting leaders from some of these fast-moving companies to a special Roundtable debate to discuss the challenges of growth.
