A firm that genuinely cares
Campbell Gordon’s work with Bracknell & Wokingham College included the “challenging” disposal of Wick Hill campus; the “sensitive” disposal of Woodley Hill House; and the acquisition of a Skills Training Centre. The college said the partnership with Campbell Gordon had shown the firm “genuinely cares about the quality of the service they provide”.
How do you maintain your service standards?
Two consultancies were contesting this award, and both were hoping for one answer to make them smile.
• Campbell Gordon – a submission encapsulating the firm’s great work since 2013 in defining and implementing a successful property strategy for Bracknell & Wokingham College.
• Vail Williams – a submission highlighting dependable client service for St John Ambulance over nearly 20 years and involving scores of properties.
Colin Allan, managing director of Morgan Lovell, once again presented the winner’s award.
Campbell Gordon director Duncan Campbell explained: “We have two fundamental pillars that support and inform the way we do business for clients. One is a rigorous, robust commercial approach, working very hard to get the very best commercial outcome for clients. The other is our committed focus on and compliance to the highest professional standards, which we see as a very important service offering. Combining and sustaining those two elements over Campbell Gordon’s 39-year existence has produced a successful client service formula and one we are very proud to continue with.”
What will this award mean for your people?
“They will be very, very pleased and I am delighted because every member of our team is totally committed to delivering very high standards. It sounds like a cliché but it absolutely isn’t from a Campbell Gordon point of view. We all work very hard and embrace those standards in everything we do, and every action we take on our clients’ behalf.”
BUSINESS PARK OF THE YEAR WINNER – HOWBERY PARK, WALLINGFORD
Many business parks today are transforming their premises and extending their offerings to suit the varied needs of today’s commercial occupiers.
Leading among them were the three finalists:
• Chineham Park – near Basingstoke, currently launching Chineham Gate, a stunning new HQ space.
• Howbery Business Park – a beautiful landscaped park at Wallingford, so popular it has a waiting list to get in.
• Shrivenham 100 – set in 16 acres near Faringdon and providing a great home for many growing SMEs.
Mitchell Brooks, head of agency for chartered surveyors and property agents Kempton Carr Croft, presented the winner’s award.
The sun shines on the right choice
Howbery was the first UK park to introduce solar-power, from which 25% of its energy now comes. Amenities include gym, restaurant, conference facilities and all-weather sports pitch. There has been 100% occupancy since September 2016. A further 70,000 sq ft of office space is being developed.
Howbery chief executive Bruce Tomlinson explained that sustainability, including solar-power, is a key feature of the park. Howbery Park was government owned and, when privatised to HR Wallingford, it ‘inherited’ its sustainable theme, also featuring

hydraulics research and water resilience since the park is located beside the Thames.
“This award will officially put us on the map. To be recognised at a prestige function such as this gives us a lot of confidence going forward. We are obviously doing the right things, not only in looking after our tenants but also in relation to our business approach.”
And that waiting list?
“We have a lot of space on which to build, and see a really exciting time going forward. On the one hand we can provide new premises, jobs and facilities for commercial organisations, but we can also tie future site development into the technical sustainable side of our business.”
