OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION WINNER – SCOTT WITCHALLS

Scott Witchalls sat open mouthed and astounded.

The Peter Brett Associates partner had just been announced as this year’s recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Contribution Award in front of a record TVPA attendance of 570 of his Thames Valley professional peers and colleagues.

Words from a very surprised winner

“I was absolutely amazed because you think this sort of award is normally for property developers or property agents. I was listening to the description of the award-winner and thinking that’s a bit odd, that’s the sort of thing I do. Then I started to feel, hang on a minute that might be about me. When the presenter read my name out I was absolutely flabbergasted but delighted.

“I could not believe it because it’s a fantastic recognition of how important the enabling infrastructure is to delivering all the fantastic developments happening in the Thames Valley. People tend to see development mainly as building schemes, not infrastructure.

“Once you get all the transport infrastructure plans in place and investment in those schemes, then the property development investment follows because funders see that you are increasing the capacity to get more people into an area. The two go hand-in- glove, you can’t deliver one without the other.”

The judges’ tribute

Presenting the award, Simon Perkins, chief executive of award sponsor McKay Securities, announced that Witchalls’ deserved

Sponsored by:

honour was recognition of his unstinting work “across the Thames Valley and wider afield on major pieces of transport infrastructure; someone who has helped generate inward investment and growth by stimulating development – whether for major housing sites, transport interchanges or business parks.”

Outside his PBA role, Witchalls has served on bodies such as Reading CIC and the Thames Valley Economic Partnership, and is “renowned for his strategic thinking, as well as his ability to roll up his sleeves and drill down to find practical solutions on his schemes.”
