SALESVILLE — Salesville sits 10


miles south of Mountain Home, with City Hall and the Community Center located on AR Highway 5 South near the intersection of AR Highway 177. City Hall office hours are 8 a. m. to 3 p. m. Monday-Friday. Salesville takes its name from the


first settler, John Sales, who came to the Ozarks prior to 1860. The population of Salesville is 445,


according to the latest census data available from 2013. The town is about one mile from


Norfork Dam and the Norfork National Fish Hatchery. Tim Mayfield took office as mayor in


July, 2016. Jai Wescoat serves as direc- tor of street work. Policing of Salesville is handled by


Baxter County Sheriff’s Department deputies. The Salesville Volunteer Fire De-


partment has a Class 6 rating by the Insurance Services Office. Salesville VFD is actively working with the Sales-


ville Water Association to upgrade fire- fighting equipment and water services to improve the town’s present ISO rat- ing. The department is led by Fire Chief Bill Kraus. Total sales tax collected in Salesville


is 8.5 percent-made up of a 1 percent city, 1 percent county and 6.5 percent state sales tax. Street repairs are the main focus of the sales tax initiative. Salesville water service is provided


by the Salesville Water Association, with office hours from 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. Tuesdays at its office at 19 Water Tower Road. The Water Association Office phone number is 499-5030. Those needing water service may


obtain a water association membership —which is refundable after the final bill is paid — of $50 for property own- ers or $25 for renters. A nonrefundable service fee of $25 is also charged. Salesville also provides sewer ser-


vice to residents, which can be obtained by contacting City Hall at 499-5675.
