BONES continued from page 41

paperboy for all I know. I still enjoy dressing up and I think it shows respect for your audience too.” And when you list the Best

Dressed Rock and Rollers in Ottawa, Uncle Bobby has to be on top. Of course it helps to own an ultra-cool clothing store like “Fab Gear 64”, but Bobby’s fashion sense goes back much further. It was drum God Buddy Rich who set the template for him. “That son of a gun would wear suits and ties and played drums like nobody’s business.” he recalls. “And then came Ringo. So I thought I’d try to play drums in a suit. And it’s not that bad. Every one of us in the band takes real good care into what they look like. It’s confidence. All of a sudden you own the whole stage. And I pound that into kids’ heads when they come into the store.” Given Bone’s amazing success

and popularity in the clubs, it’s obvious that ageism is not a stumbling block. The guys embrace their age and experience, and don’t shy away from dipping into an incredibly deep canon of music. “We’re not trying to sound like a brand new band”, says Paul. “We’re just carrying on the tradition of great rock and roll.” That tradition has been exported

to receptive audiences in England and the States as well as Canada. They’re working on new material for the second album, as well as a series of videos, and, of course, lots of local gigs.

Perhaps that is an important

element in being a veteran band. You have to keep working hard because there is a limited window of opportunity to squeeze through before it slams shut. But there is also a focus from years of experience in the music business to guide you through the twists and turns in the industry. The guys in Bone have been there and done that, time and time again, so this time they are more than ready for whatever comes. www.bounder.ca
