Shriners International is the fraternity that founded Shriners Hospitals for Children® in 1922. Today, Shriners International continues to support the hospitals by raising funds, assisting patients’ families with transportation, volunteering on hospital boards and much more.
Children from birth to age 18 receive expert specialty
medical care at these hospitals, with no financial obligation to them or their families, thanks to the efforts of Shriners and other generous supporters. In addition, many Shriners Hospitals for Children® facilities are engaged in medical research and are affiliated with the top academic medical institutions in North America.
About Tunis Shriners No. 179 Tunis Shrine No. 179, Ottawa was founded in 1975, by a noble and honorable
group of Freemasons dedicated to the idea that Masonry could be enjoyable and fun. Devoted to ideals of benevolence and charity, like other such Shrines across North America and even the world, they set out to meet the challenges of creating such a dream. And so the story goes on even now after more than 40 years, to discover that Tunis Shrine No. 179 has met with level heads and meek hearts all of the challenges encountered along the journey. Still today they carry the torch as a light and beacon for others to follow in their footsteps, imitate their example, and heed the call, especially for those children who truly need their assistance and love.
