Industry powerhouse School Transportation, Inc. celebrates its 20th year of service
School Transportation, Inc. has been doing business for 20 years, and no one is prouder of that than its founder and CEO, Denis Gallagher. For many companies, just being in business for 20 years is an accomplishment. STI has not simply existed but expanded, from an idea Gallagher had at home, surrounded by family in his kitchen, to one of the largest student transportation companies in the nation. Gallagher has maintained the family theme throughout STI’s growth. “What began at my kitchen table 20 years ago with a supportive wife, four young kids and a wing and a prayer has grown into a family of companies with over 175 locations throughout North America and some 15,000 employees who I encourage each day to treat each other like family, and to treat our passengers with compassion and respect,” Gallagher said. “Our family-like culture is a huge part of our success.” Gallagher said the growth process was not always easy and came with challenges. “We
started small and were strategic with our growth,” he added. “It has been 12-and-a-half years since we went public on the (Toronto Stock Exchange) in that income structure of high-dividend paying stocks.” Gallagher said that when the company went public, it had about 3,000 vehicles and $80 million in projected revenues. Today, STI transports over 1.25 million passengers, mostly students, each school day. Gallagher said STI has over 13,500 vehicles and about $630 million in annualized revenues.
