ments), red light offences, the illegal use of individual lanes. The system can also calculate the headway between vehicles to enforce tailgating offences. Many of these applications can be utilised simultaneously with the same device and from one site. The system thus eliminates the need to install multiple technologies on a road where there is more than one risk factor present.

FLEXIBLE AND EFFECTIVE POLISCAN FM1 is designed to be light and compact. All nec- essary sensor and documentation technology is contained within a single unit. Mechanical and electrical connections are simplified and unified allowing quick and easy transfer from one deployment mode to another. For example, oper- ators can simply detach the unit from a fixed housing and install it into an enforcement vehicle or use a tripod, without the need for any additional casings or racks. Other deploy- ment options include pole mount operation and a semi- stationary housing with an independent power supply for several days. Once the system is set up, enforcement is fully automatic and does not require an operator to be present. A colour touch display on the rear of the measuring unit offers easy and intuitive access to information about system status and the running enforcement session. Deployments in the Middle East have shown the effective- ness of LIDAR enforcement. In the 11-month deployment
